PRE-CARE

Pre-care instructions are crucial to minimize bleeding and sensitivity during the permanent makeup procedure. Excessive bleeding can dilute the pigment and affect color retention, so following these guidelines will help ensure optimal results.

  • - 24 Hours Before: Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and exercise.

    - 72 Hours Before: Refrain from blood thinners like Advil, Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Niacin, and Vitamin E unless necessary.

    - 7 Days Before: Stop taking fish oil supplements, prenatal vitamins, hair/skin/nail supplements. (resume post-procedure). Avoid sun exposure before, especially tanning or sunburn, as it affects pigment retention.

    - 2 Weeks Before: No Botox, brow waxing, tinting, or threading. Discontinue the use of AHA's, aka Alpha Hydroxy Acids in the forehead area.

    - 4 Weeks Before: Discontinue Retin-A, Tazorac, Tretinoin and Retinol in the forehead area. No chemical peels, microneedling or facials.

For clients with conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, Celiac disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), lupus, psoriatic or rheumatoid arthritis, or a cancer diagnosis, a clearance letter from your doctor is required before proceeding with cosmetic tattooing in the brow area. This letter must be an official note from your physician, confirming you are medically cleared for facial cosmetic tattooing.

    • Lip Scrub: Gently scrub your lips using a lip scrub (DIY: mix 1 tbsp brown sugar, honey, and olive oil) one week, three days, and 8-12 hours before your appointment to remove dead skin. Follow with Aquaphor.

    • Skin Condition: Lips must not be dry, chapped, or irritated on the day of the procedure. If your lips aren’t in optimal condition, Brow Therapy reserves the right to reschedule your appointment.

    • Botox & Lip Fillers: Botox around the mouth needs to be done at least 2 weeks before your procedure. Lip Filler must be done a minimum of 5 weeks before Lip Blushing procedure.

    • Sunburn Warning: Avoid sunburn or chapped lips before your appointment as these conditions affect pigment retention. Service cannot proceed if your lips are burned or irritated.

    • Hydration: Drink plenty of water to keep your lips hydrated and healthy.

AFTERCARE

Now that I've completed my part, it's essential for you to take care of your permanent makeup to ensure they heal properly and maintain their color. Proper aftercare is crucial—it's responsible for 50% or more of your final result. Follow these guidelines to protect your investment and achieve the best outcome

  • The first 3 hours after procedure:

    • Blot excess lymph fluid with a clean tissue every 3-5 minutes for the first hour, every 15-20 minutes for the second hour and every 30 minutes on the third hour to prevent scabbing, which can affect color retention.

Night of Procedure: Aftercare products are provided to you.

    • Gently wash brows with unscented baby shampoo, rinse with water, and pat dry with a tissue or cotton round (no towels, towels can hold bacteria). Apply a small amount of Aquaphor (about a quarter of a pea size) to each brow using a cotton swab or clean finger.

    Days 2-14:

    • Wash brows gently with unscented baby shampoo in the morning and evening, rinse with water, and apply Aquaphor, following the same method as day 1.

    For All 14 Days:

    • Avoid Wetting Brows: Only clean your brows during your morning and evening aftercare routine. Keep brows dry in the shower by tilting your head back and washing your face with a damp cloth around the brows.

    • No Sweating: Avoid sweating to prevent infection and scarring, as well as to ensure proper color retention.

    • No Rubbing, Scratching, or Picking: Avoid touching your brows, and try to sleep on your back to prevent premature scab removal.

    • No Sun Exposure: Keep your brows protected from the sun.

    • No Other Products: Avoid makeup, oils, soaps, or any products on the brow and forehead area.

    After 14 Days:

    • Congratulations, you’ve made it! You can now return to your normal cleansing and makeup routine. On day 15, wash your brows gently with baby shampoo. You may continue to use Aquaphor if your brows feel dry or itchy, and apply makeup if needed. Keep in mind, your brows may look light and patchy after the flaking stage, but the color will darken over the next few weeks.

  • First 48 Hours:

    • Blot the treated area with provided antiseptic wipes after eating, in the evening and morning.

    • On the second day, continue blotting twice daily (morning and evening) or after meals using only the antiseptic wipes. No water or other cleansers during this time.

    • Apply a thin layer of the provided A&D ointment consistently throughout the day using a fresh Q-tip for 10 days.

Important: Avoid touching, picking, or peeling your lips. Let the skin heal naturally and use only the provided moisturizer. No makeup near the lip area until fully healed at 10 days.

Moisturizing: Keep lips moisturized for a minimum of 10 days.

    • Apply a thin layer of the provided A&D ointment consistently throughout the day using a fresh Q-tip. Avoid mineral oil or petroleum-based products (like Vaseline). Over-applying can lead to fading, so a thin layer goes a long way.

    • Apply a thicker coat of ointment before bathing, washing around the mouth, and first thing in the morning. Keep lips moisturized to prevent cracking.

    Day 1-10:

    • Avoid touching, licking, biting, or rubbing the treated area—this will lead to color loss.

    • Keep the lips free from sweat, water, lotions, serums, soap, or makeup.

    • Abstain from any activity that causes sweating.

    • Use a straw for drinking and avoid biting into foods that may cause friction. No spicy foods, or colored, hot, or cold drinks unless through a straw.

    • No kissing or foreign body fluids.

    • Avoid using any lipsticks or cosmetics near the treated area.

    Next 14+ Days:

    • Avoid: hot saunas, swimming pools, oceans, hot baths/showers, sun tanning, tanning salons, Vaseline, Neosporin, or petroleum-based products.

    • No massages, facials, waxing, threading, laser treatments, or skin treatments.

    • Do not smoke or vape.

    • Keep the area clean and avoid exposure to unsanitary or dirty conditions.

Following these steps will help ensure proper healing and color retention!

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Days 2-5: Your brows will darken as scabs form over the newly pigmented area. They may look VERY DARK—don’t panic, this is normal!

Days 5-14: The scabs will harden and gradually fall off in small pieces, usually starting with the front and tail of your brows. Let them fall off naturally—DO NOT pull them off!

Days 7-14: After the scabs fall off, your brows will appear very light. This is completely normal, and not everyone will experience flaking. Everyone heals differently, so don't be alarmed!

Days 15-30: Your brows will gradually darken each week and may look patchy at times, which is also normal. It takes about a month for the brows to fully heal. Any adjustments will be made at your follow-up appointment, so be sure to schedule it!

    Maintenance After Healing:
Once fully healed (around 4 weeks), clean and exfoliate the brow area weekly to keep them looking fresh. Dead skin can build up and make the pigment look dull, so regular exfoliation and moisturizing will help your brows stay vibrant and dark!

    IMPORTANT FOR LONG TERM RESULTS

    • Always wear sunscreen on brows when out in the sun. Sun will fade and alter the tattoo. Protect your investment.

    • Do not put any anti-aging or acne lotions/moisturizers, serums or face washes on the brows.

    • Always let your technician/esthetician know you have a brow tattoo when doing peels, laser, facials etc to prevent anything from ruining or altering the brow tattoo.

  • Day 1-2 Your lips will appear darker the following 2 days and feel very dry even with ointment on.

Day 3-5 Lips will start to flake. Do not touch and keep them moisturized with ointment provided. The flaking process will take 1-3 days on average.

Day 10 Lips are fully healed. You can apply makeup around the lip area and you can stop using the ointment provided and switch to a gloss or chapstick if you like.

Day 1-45 Lip coloration will be changing dramatically. They will appear completely gone at some point. Be patient and trust the process.. It takes about 40-45 days for the end result color.

    IMPORTANT FOR LONG TERM RESULTS

    • Always wear chapstick sunscreen on lips when out in the sun. Sun will fade and alter the tattoo. Protect your investment.

    • Do not smoke/vape as it will give you undesirable results by altering the color.

    • Do not put any anti-aging or acne lotions/moisturizers, serums or face washes on the lips.

    • Always let your technician/esthetician know you have a lip tattoo when doing peels, laser, facials etc to prevent anything from ruining or altering the lip tattoo.

This timeline is typical, but not definite. If your brows or lips take a little longer or shorter time to heal, don’t worry. Everyone heals differently.
